A male Montezuma quail
I visited Texas for the first time to join a great team of MONQ researchers. The habitats I visited at Texas are critical in my research as isolated MONQ populations of low genetic diversity are remained. Due to their small population sizes, it is indeed extremely hard to find them. The team also stated it is not uncommon to fail to find a single bird. However, I was more fortunate than expected! We found a beautiful pair of Montezuma quails and collected their samples. Their appearance, as well as habitats, are very fascinating. This filed trip was short but still enough to better understand my study species ecology.

My first caecilian
During AVIS 8 (8th International Symposium on Asian Vertebrate Species Diversity), I got involved in a field survey at Vientiane. Herp team surveyed several uninvestigated sites and found numerous herp species. Specimens were preserved and contributed to the National University of Laos.

Huge thanks to (now late) Dr. Wake, for showing me around MVZ, introducing other outstanding scholars, and inviting me to Dr. Papenfuss's talk at the UC Berkeley Herp group!
