FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT OUR DANCE AND SKIT SHOWS.
Q: What day will the contest/showcase take place?
A: The date and time of the contest/showcase should be reflected on our application forms, official Instagram posts, and on the official convention website. If the exact date and time has not been established by the convention organizers, it will say TBD until further notice. You can follow our Instagram account to see updates on future information.
Q: Do I need a ticket to the convention to attend the contest/showcase?
A: Yes, you need a ticket to the convention to attend any of our shows and panels being held at said convention.
Q: Can I be a guest judge at the contest?
A: We currently have our own team for K!Junkies which includes judges for our contests! We also tend to bring in guest judges based on past winners from the previous contest for its respective convention.
Q: Will there be prizes for those who place in the contest?
A: Yes! We try our best to include monetary prizes as well as tickets to the convention for the following year to those that place in our top spots.
Q: If I win Best In Show at the contest, am I allowed to enter again the following year?
A: We currently have a tradition with our Hit The Stage ‘Best In Show’ winners in which we invite them back as special guests for the following year’s contest. If you win Best In Show and turn down our special guest offer to perform and guest judge, we may not allow you/your team to compete again until the next contest.
Q: I haven’t received my prize/passes yet after winning them at the contest. When should I expect them?
A: If the convention you placed at is to send you your prize money directly, you should expect to see it within the first few months after the convention has concluded. As for passes to the following convention, conventions do not tend to send out their passes until a month (or less) till the convention. If you have not received either prize, you may contact us so we can direct you to the right point of contact.
Q: I wrote something incorrectly on my form, but I can’t update my form. Should I resubmit it?
A: Please avoid submitting your application more than once. If you need to update something, please let us know via email.
Q: Can I perform in cosplay?
A: Yes.
Q: Do all the members planning to participate in the contest/showcase need to be present in the preliminary video?
A: No! The preliminary video does not need to contain the exact members planning to perform. You may submit a video of your crew even if the lineup may be different, but please try to send a video that contains the majority of the members planning to perform.
Q: My group wants to perform a dance that contains (#) amount of members, but we do not have the same amount in our team. Can we rearrange formations to fit our amount of members?
A: There is no rule against altering formations to suit your amount of members! In other words, you do not need to have the exact number of members from the group you are planning to cover, just as someone competing as a soloist can perform a dance from a group.
Q: For the preliminary video, what should I send if I plan to perform with someone that I do not have videos with?
A: You may send multiple links of each individual dancing if you do not have any videos together. You may also compile separate dance videos together and send us that link.
Q: Can the preliminary video hurt my chances of being in the contest/showcase?
A: It is likely. The preliminary video acts as a PRE-JUDGING / PRE-SCREENING round and may determine your placement in the contest/showcase. Try to send some of your best work to prove your skills!
Q: Can I do choreography to a non-K-pop song that was performed by a K-Pop artist (i.e. Covers by idols, Studio Choom Artist Of The Month specials, etc.)
A: No. Your performance must be to a K-Pop song or a song by a K-Pop artist.
Q: Can my performance be choreography from a year-end show performance?
A: We ask that 75% of the performance be the official choreography to the song(s) of your choice. You may remix your audio with intros/dance breaks from special performances if you wish, but the majority of your performance must cover the original choreography.
Q: Can I do choreography from shows like Street Woman Fighter?
A: No. Your performance must be to a K-Pop song or a song by a K-Pop artist and its original choreography. You may add additional choreography from special stages to your performance as long as the majority of your performance must cover the original choreography.
Q: Are original mashups of a song allowed? (i.e. BABYMONSTER’s 2NE1 mashup)
A: We ask that 75% of the performance be the official choreography to the song(s) of your choice. You may remix your audio with intros/dance breaks from special performances if you wish, but the majority of your performance must cover the original choreography.
Q: Can I do a Japanese/English song by a K-Pop artist?
A: Yes.
Q: How soon will I be notified if my song choice(s) was already chosen by another performer?
A: We try to notify applicants as soon as we receive the application if their song choice was already chosen by another applicant. A ‘song change request’ email does not confirm your participation in the contest! If your original song choice is available after confirmation emails are sent, we will inform you in case you wish to change it back.
Q: Can I change my song choice later after being accepted into the contest/showcase?
A: Yes, as long as your new song choice isn’t already taken by another performer.
Q: Can I use a microphone on stage?
A: Microphones will not be provided for the contest. All performances that include any form of speaking or singing must be pre-recorded and will have to be mouthed on stage.
