Overview

KitChef ("the App") is developed by Ruben Garcia Figueroa ("we", "us"). Unlike some of our other apps, KitChef uses cloud services to power your recipe collection and the community feed, so this policy explains exactly what that involves and what stays on your device.

Data We Collect

KitChef does not require you to create an account, and we never collect your name, email address, or password. When you first open the App, Firebase creates an anonymous, randomly generated ID for your device so your recipes can sync; this ID is not linked to your real identity.

Recipes you create, and any recipe you choose to share to the community feed, are stored on Google Firebase (Firestore and Firebase Storage for images), tied to that anonymous ID. If you share a recipe, its content and image become visible to other users, along with any likes, comments, or follows tied to your anonymous ID.

Data Stored On Your Device

Your pantry items, meal plans, dietary preferences, calorie goal, favorites, and app settings are stored locally on your device. This data is not sent to us unless it is part of a recipe you explicitly choose to share.

Camera And Photos

Food Scanner uses Apple's on-device Vision framework to recognize food from your camera. Photos and camera frames are analyzed entirely on your device and are never uploaded to us or to any third party. Barcode Scanner sends only the scanned barcode number, not a photo, to the free public Open Food Facts database to look up product information. Photo Library access is requested only if you choose to pick an existing photo instead of using the camera.

Notifications

If you allow notifications, KitChef schedules reminders locally on your device, such as meal planning nudges and pantry expiry alerts. These are generated and delivered on-device.

Recipe Data From Third Parties

Recipe details, images, and nutrition information you browse in Discover come from the Spoonacular API. Your searches and filters are sent to Spoonacular to return results; we do not attach your identity to those requests.

Subscriptions and Purchases

Subscription and purchase transactions are handled entirely by Apple through StoreKit and the App Store. We do not receive or store your payment information. Apple's own privacy policy governs that data: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/

Children's Privacy

KitChef is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from children. The App does not ask for age, name, or other identifying information at any point.

Your Rights

Since your data is tied only to an anonymous device ID and not your identity, you can remove it at any time by deleting any shared recipes from within the App, or by deleting the App. To request deletion of community content tied to your anonymous ID, contact us at the email below.

Changes to This Policy

If we change what data the App collects or how it is handled, we will update this page and the "Last updated" date above, and reflect any material change in the App's release notes.
