Sodo was born a water Ghoul and the runt of his litter and, because of this, he didn't have the best time growing up in The Pits. He was usually pushed aside and bullied and threatened at nearly every corner. This was the start of his aggressive nature, because he had to be aggressive in order to survive. Snapping back, fighting with siblings and other pack mates, etc. Even though Sodo is small, he honed himself to having the strength to back himself up until, eventually, they slowly stopped picking at him. Life may have been tough for him, but it gave him the opportunity to strengthen himself both inside and out.

Eventually Sodo was summoned Topside. Most Ghouls idolize being Topside as they see it as being specially picked for Lucifer's great design. (This and they find humans fascinating--them interacting with humans is like us thinking about discovering cryptids.) While he was more than happy to be a part of The Ghost Project, it took a while for Sodo to warm to his new pack mates. He was distrusting, snappy, and distant. His feelings only worsened when Sister Imperator had threatened to send him back to The Pits, not only for his attitude but because of the change they wanted to the project. But, given the talent Sodo had, Sister gave him an ultimatum: go back to The Pits or undergo a elemental changing ritual. While the idea of an elemental changing ritual scared Sodo (it was only a rumor down in The Pits and no one thought it possible), the idea of going back to The Pits seemed worse. Thus, he agreed to have his element changed. Unfortunately for him, it was a grueling and very painful ritual, but he managed to survive and became a fire Ghoul from then until the end of his existence.

After the ritual, Sodo needed time to recover and was in the infirmary for a good bit. Despite his previous attitude, every one of his pack mates took turns caring for him and visiting him while he recovered. While he was standoffish at first, it didn't take long for him to calm down and lean into the care and compassion the newly reborn fire Ghoul desperately needed. Even the newest members would come visit poor Sodo while he recovered. During this time is when he really started to form a bond with his pack mates and they have all been inseparable since. While he is still cranky and bitey at times, he does genuinely care for all of the other Ghouls and Ghoulettes and feels he owes them a great debt for their care during his post ritual recovery. He would do anything for them.
