Interesting thread, this. Not many come to mind. There's

the Rafi/Kishore/Mukesh song 'Humko tumse ho gaya hai pyaar'

from Amar Akbar Anthony, and 'Mere humsafar, geet hai tere'

by Kishore/Mukesh from Dharam Karam. But I don't consider these as duets - they're similar songs

picturised on two characters at different locations of

time/space. Strictly speaking, a duet should involve some

form of interaction between the two characters, yes? Like

'Ye dosti' from Sholay or the many songs that Rafi/Kishore

did for all those multi-starrers by Manmohan Desai. How about yet another list of all permutations of Kishore,

Rafi, Mukesh and Manna Dey?Begin.

Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhosle were Bollywood playback singers. Kishore was born on 4 August 1929 and Asha was born on 8 September 1933. Asha was only four years younger than Kishore. So they were very friendly. Both Asha and Kishore started their career in 1948. They recorded their first duet "Main Bengali Chokra" in Raagini (1950). Kishore and Asha together sang some of the greatest hits of Bollywood including "Chhod Do Aanchal", "Ankhon Mein Kya Ji", "Haal Kaisaa Hai", "Aap Yahan Aaye Kisliye", "Tu Tu Hai Wahi l", "Mausam Pyaar Ka", "Jaane Jaan Dhoondhta", "Saara Pyaar Tumhara", "Guru Guru", "Aa Dekhe Zara", "Aaj Rapat Jaye" etc. Kishore Kumar passed away in 13 October 1987. His last song was even a duet with Asha Bhosle. Due to a prominent singer, his songs were releasing even a decade after his death. The last ever Asha-Kishore duet is "Dil Tujhko Diya" from Akhri Sanghursh (1997). They were also prominent singers in Bengali and together sung greatest duets in Bengali also. These include "Amar Swapno Tumi","Adho Alo Chhayate","Chirodini Tumi Je Amar","Phulkoli Re Phulkoli" etc.

S. D. Burman was the first music director of Bollywood who consistently used Asha Bhosle and Kishore Kumar in the 1950s, when he wasn't in speaking terms with Lata Mangeshkar. At that time he determined to sprout the career of Asha. Despite this fact that Asha and Kishore sang in every major film of Burman, the total duets of them are only 14. In 1957, he used the Asha-Kishore duet "Akhon Mein Kya Jee" in the Soundtrack of Nau Do Gyarah. The song attained immense popularity. The song "Chhod Do Aanchal" from Paying Guest (1957) and "Haal Kaisa Hai Janaab Ka" from Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi (1958) became an all time hits and are considered as classical gems today. In 1965 film Teen Devian, their song "Are Yaar Mere Ho Tum Bhi Ho Ghazab". It became a chartbaster and even popular till date. Some of their popular songs under Burman include "O Ji O Humein" from Funtoosh (1956), Tum Jahan Jahan" from Apna Hath Jagannath (1960) etc.[1]

R. D. Burman was the biggest mentor of this duo. He made this duo the most sought after singing pair in the 1970s and 1980s, upon composing more than two hundred Asha-Kishore duets, resulting in enormous hits. In 1972, the duo saw the zenith of their pair-up with the film Jawani Deewani. This film has three Asha-Kishore duets. The song "Jaane Jaan" is the most successful rendition if this duo till date. It captured 26th position in the annual top chart of Binaca Geetmala. Though ranked so poorly, the song has become an aaltime hit and is still popular in thee same mmanner even today. The other two songs weree "Agar Saaz Chhedo Toh" aand "Nahi Nahi Abhi Nahi" were also hits.[5] In 1975, the duet "Keh Doon Tumhe" from Deewar became a chartbaster. The song "Tum Saath Ho Jab Apne" from Kaalia, "Aaj Rapat Jaye" from Namak Halaal (1982), "Tu Tu Hai Wahi" from Yeh Wada Raha, "Mausam Pyaar Ka" from Sitamgar (1985) etc. also became huge hits. Some memorable duets of Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhosle is given here:

Their duets and ensemble songs of films as varied as Chupke Chupke, Zakhmee, Parvarish, Amar Akbar Anthony (with Mukesh also along with Lata Mangeshkar!), Aap Ke Deewane, Ram Balram, Badaltey Rishtey, Doosraa Aadmi, The Burning Train, Shaan, Kranti, Naseeb and many more, under a bevy of composers, remain timeless examples of their bonding, as they were all live recordings.

Neeraj joins Navketan-SDB for the first time with some incredible songs, but the film had a tepid response. Shokhiyo mein ghola jaaye is a very popular pure duet with Lata Mangeshkar. Gham pe dhool daalo is a fun duet between Kishore Kumar (for Dev Anand) and Bhupendra (for Anoop Kumar on the wheel), targeted at the sulking Zaahida at the back of the jeep. The picturesque setting enhances the beauty of the song.

I end with this beautiful duet from a very sensitive film from Navketan. This too was not a great commercial success, but it must be one of the best directed by Vijay Anand, who also played a very powerful role in the film. The duet refers to the new entity that is to come into the life of Dev Anand-Mumtaz. The film had another great KK-Lata duet, Hey maine qasam li, and a beautiful Lata solo, Mera antar ek mandir hai tera. The film and the songs picturised on Mumtaz established her reputation as an actress par excellence. ff782bc1db
