Dr. Kisha G. Tracy
Professional Portfolio
Hello and welcome!
I am a Professor of English Studies, specializing in premodern British and world literatures, and the chair of the General Education Program Area, as well as former Coordinator of the Center for Teaching and Learning, at Fitchburg State University in Fitchburg, MA. I received my Ph.D. in Medieval Studies from the University of Connecticut in 2010. My first book is available from Palgrave, entitled Memory and Confession in Middle English Literature, and explores how the traditional medieval relationship between memory and confession provides a valuable framework for understanding the employment of recollection in various Middle English literary texts. My second book is available from Arc, Why Study the Middle Ages?, and explores how the Middle Ages in every aspect of the modern liberal arts—the humanities, STEM, and the social sciences—has significant importance for society and the individual. My main current disciplinary research interest is medieval disabilities, particularly mental illness. In addition, I focus on research related to encouraging student investment in learning and information literacy in higher education. I have created two OER textbooks entitled Why Do I Have to Take This Course? A Guide to General Education and Heritages of Change: Curatorial Activism and First-Year Writing (grant-funded by Remixing Open Textbooks Through an Equity Lens).
