Professional Experience

2011 – Present: Technical Advisor, Research Utilization, FHI 360, Durham, NC

Design and lead global research utilization projects promoting evidence-based practices. Represent FHI 360 and build close collaborative relationships with donor agencies, government representatives, international partners, and local health research professionals. Build capacity for global and in-country policy makers and program managers in evidence-informed decision-making. Lead technical direction, oversight, and coordination for several of FHI 360’s key work areas: the community-based provision of family planning (CBFP) and of injectable contraception (CBA2I), and evidence-informed policy making (EIPM).

2003 – 2011: Senior Technical Advisor, Research Utilization, Global Health Population and Nutrition, FHI 360, Durham, NC

Provided technical assistance and oversight for development and implementation of global, regional, and country-level programs focusing on reproductive health topics. Worked with FHI 360 project teams to develop and implement health studies to increase the impact of research findings primarily in Kenya and Uganda). Promoted research results to policymakers and program managers, including scale-up of successful interventions and best practices, in collaboration with in-country partners.

2001 – 2003: Program Officer, Field, Information, and Training Services, FHI 360, Durham, NC

Provided technical and management assistance to FHI 360 operations and projects in Africa which involved identifying and prioritizing health needs, advocating for evidence-informed family planning policies and guidelines, generating new project ideas, developing and implementing capacity-building strategies; and securing funding in collaboration with in-country partners.

1999 – 2001 : Project Director, Teen Pregnancy Prevention Initiative (TPPI), University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, NC

Managed execution of research methodology for statewide research project evaluating teen parenting and pregnancy prevention programs in North Carolina. Coordinated development of web-based data system and gathered and analyzed data for research and policy objectives.

1998 – 1999: Family Planning Social Worker, Chatham County Health Dept., Siler City, NC

Established protocols and procedures for services for adolescents and women with pregnancy and reproductive health needs. Provided pre-natal education and support program for pregnant Latina women, and reproductive health and life-skills program for adolescent boys. Developed follow-up program for family planning clinics in Pittsboro and Siler City, North Carolina.

1996 – 1998: Behavior Counselor/ Research Associate, Duke University Diet and Fitness Center, Durham,NC

Conducted behavior assessments and provided Cognitive-Behavioral-based counseling to clients in the Treatment Aftercare Program.
