At Kiroku ("we," "our," or "us"), available at usekiroku.com, we believe your private thoughts, voice notes, and ideas belong exclusively to you. Kiroku is built with a Privacy-First, On-Device, and Offline-First philosophy.

This Privacy Policy explains how Kiroku handles your information, what permissions are required, and how performance and diagnostic data is collected when you use our mobile application available on the Google Play Store.

1. Core Privacy Principle: Local Data Ownership

Kiroku is designed so that you do not need to create an account, register, or provide personal identity information (such as your name, email address, or phone number) to use the app.

• No User Accounts: We do not collect personal profile information or account credentials.

• No Cloud Audio Storage: We do not maintain servers that store your audio recordings, transcripts, summaries, or emotion/trend analysis.

2. Information Handled by the App

A. Voice & Audio Data

• Processing: Voice recordings captured during your session are used solely to transcribe speech to text.

• Storage: On supported devices, speech-to-text processing happens 100% locally on your device. Audio files and transcripts are saved directly to your phone's local database.

• Cloud Fallback (Optional): If your device lacks native AI hardware capabilities or if you explicitly opt to use remote AI services (e.g., third-party APIs like OpenAI for advanced proofreading or transcription), your audio or text snippets will only be sent to the chosen provider when requested. We do not store these API calls on our servers.

B. Transcripts, Notes & Insights

All generated text, proofreading edits, detected emotional tones, hashtags, summaries, and action items are saved locally in Kiroku’s isolated database on your mobile device. We cannot read, access, sell, or analyze your notes.

C. Diagnostic & Crash Data (Firebase Crashlytics)

To ensure stability, identify bugs, and improve app reliability, Kiroku uses Firebase Crashlytics (a service provided by Google). When the app crashes or experiences an error, Crashlytics automatically collects certain diagnostic information:

• Crash Logs & Performance Data: Information about the stack trace at the time of the crash, app state, and execution details.

• Device Characteristics: Device model, operating system version, CPU architecture, screen orientation, and RAM status.

• Installation Identifiers: A randomized, non-personal Firebase installation ID used strictly to group similar crash reports together.

Note: Crashlytics does not collect your voice recordings, transcripts, or personal identifying information. Diagnostic data collected by Crashlytics is retained in accordance with Google Firebase policies.

3. App Permissions Requested

To provide core voice-to-text functionality, Kiroku requests access to specific device capabilities:

• Microphone (RECORD_AUDIO): Required to record your voice notes and process speech in real time. The microphone is only active while you are recording inside the app.

• Storage / Local Media Access (READ/WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE or Media Store APIs): Used solely to save and retrieve your recorded audio files, export files, or app configuration settings locally on your phone.

• Internet (INTERNET): Required to transmit crash reports to Firebase Crashlytics, update the app via Google Play, and reach optional cloud-based AI providers if enabled.

4. Third-Party Services

Kiroku operates without ad networks or user tracking tools. We partner with the following third-party infrastructure providers for diagnostics and optional cloud AI capabilities:

5. Data Retention & Deletion

Because your user content is stored locally on your device:

• Deleting Notes: You can delete individual voice recordings or transcripts anytime directly within the app.

• Complete Data Removal: Uninstalling Kiroku or clearing the app’s storage through your Android device settings will permanently remove all local databases, voice recordings, and generated insights from your phone.

6. Children's Privacy

Kiroku does not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from children under the age of 13 (or under 16 in certain jurisdictions). Because the app functions locally without user registration, no personal data from children is transmitted to us.

7. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in functionality, hardware capabilities, or legal requirements. Updates will be posted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date.
