Week of the Young Child

The KCDC began organizing events each April in 2006 to help the community participate in the national celebration of Week of the Young Child.  Activities have included Family Fun Nights, Theme Weeks, hanging child artwork up around town, and a yearly Free Kids' Concert featuring our good friend Shannon Cerneka.  This celebration has grown into a collaboration with other area organizations like Kirksville Parks and Recreation, Kirksville Arts Association, Parents As Teachers and Truman State University.  It's great to work together!

SB40 Spotlight Award Recipient Shelly Boland

KCDC Teacher Shelly Boland was the SB40 November 2024 Spotlight Award Recipient. Shelly has worked at KCDC since 2007. Director Katy Korte said "[Shelly] can often be found either reading books to a couch-full of kids or leading them In a baking project as a learning activity. Many kids over the years have enjoyed making bread, doing science experiments and skinging songs with Miss Shelly. We greatly appreciate her enthusiasm within the classroom."
