Kiran John

Graduate Student in Economics -  Computational Justice Lab - Claremont Graduate University

About me

I am a current 3rd year PhD student in Economics and affiliated with the Economic Sciences Department at Claremont Graduate University. My areas of concentration include: Applied Economics, Labor Economics, Econometrics, Causal Inference, Micro-Policy, and, Development Economics. My research is primarily United States and India focused, with the underlying theme being to understand micro-policy through the lens of institutional framework. I also focus on South Asia in general, as well as the Middle-East; Qatar being where I grew up.

My previous work as a Data Analyst has kept me on the cutting edge of being able to use computational tools to address issues within social science, as well as researching causality using machine learning techniques. In my journey from PhD Student to Applied Researcher, I have acquired the necessary knowledge of theoretical and empirical techniques in problem solving and causal identification. I'm currently working on a paper that looks at the impact of the passage of a certain law in the State of California, and its broader impact on individuals within the state, and by extension, the American Criminal Justice System.

My real passion is teaching, which I hope to begin, God willing, Spring of '24.

Hobbies

Being from Kerala, fútbol is in my blood. I support the Seleção (Brazil national football team) internationally, and both Real Madrid C.F & Liverpool F.C in club competitions.

Although I consider myself an introvert, the thought of hiking is one that I love. I love the outdoors and well-planned itineraries. A few memories from my time up in Yosemite to brighten your day :)
