On the right, you'll find examples of data and programs related to my research. I've currently structured these examples by which academic paper they're related to. For more information, see my Google Scholar page. You can find some information about each database below.
These data provide boat interdiction incidents data in maritime interdiction operations in the Central Mediterranean Sea from 2006 to 2017 in the European Union (EU) by Frontex, (now) the EU's border guard agency. For the most comprehensive data (2013 to 2017), Frontex gives information from JORA, or the Joint Operations Reporting Application, which operated during this time period to store information related to its maritime interdiction operations.
This database features a mixed methodology designed to locate, record, and analyze migrant boat losses and maritime interdiction operations to fill the gaps identified in the border externalization literature. This involved collecting data from media aggregators and additional sources using content analysis for descriptive and time-series statistical analysis. The primary purpose of the project was to create data sets on migrant boat losses and border-related operations at sea. The authors first sought to explore and determine what methods and data were available. Previous scholarship had approached these subjects through an eclectic set of methodologies, with existing quantitative methods focused on state, non-governmental organization, and, where possible, media reports.
These data provide tabulations about international student entries and transitions to other visa statuses in Ontario, and partly to Canada as a whole. International student entries data cover the period of 2000 to 2012, divided into quarterly segments of each year. International student transitions data cover the period of 2002 to 2011, divided by year. According to the data, 252,658 international students entered Ontario during this time (compared to 711,151 to Canada as a whole), and 71,860 international students from Ontario remained in Canada after finishing their studies by transitioning to another visa status.
This database contains data from the Government of Ontario's Public Sector Salary Disclosure (PSSD) data, from 1996 to 2016. Based on analysis we performed in our paper (see "Source document"), we also introduce a number of new variables to measure the level of and prominence of gender salary gaps in post-secondary education in Ontario. The full data contain approximately 845,586 records on public sector employees earning 100,000 CAD or more in a given year. Repeat records are possible; however, we link up and control for records in the paper.
These data relate to arrivals of illegalised migrant arrivals in the Mediterranean Sea to the European Union (EU) from January 2015 to July 2019. The data represent tabulations of these migrants with two thematic focuses: (1) counts of minors (i.e., migrants below the age of majority), including unaccompanied minors (i.e., minors migrating without family or guardians), and (2) counts by migration route (i.e., Western, Central and Eastern Mediterranean Sea). For comparative purposes, asylum applications by unaccompanied minors in each destination country (i.e., Greece, Italy and Spain) are also included.
