Kin Makers

A streaming reality series that explores alternative forms of kin making and asks,

CAN A FAMILY BE MADE FROM THIN AIR?

“Kin Makers” is an unscripted web docuseries that tracks the making of (a) real life famil(y/ies) out of thin air.

In the initial season, “Kin Makers” brought together five strangers to form one or more families. The Kin Makers Family Members discussed on screen individually and in groups with a licensed psychologist, what a family can be.

The discoveries that each Family Member made about themselves and what they mutually wants ultimately formed their shared family values for honesty and presence. Where someone would usually walk away, the trained host/psychologist invited the Family to examine themselves and their relationships in pursuit of truth and goal to “reach gold. The gold is that bond.” (Kin Makers September Iteration Family Member).

In addition to individual testimonial-style interviews, to-be-family members were filmed getting to know one another in platonic courtship scenarios and in group relationship development sessions in which they discussed their past experiences and roles in family structures and what they want to build for the future, and their current Kin Makers Family dynamics. Activities and exercises challenged Family Members to think about caregiving, reciprocity, emotional wellness and making relations.

The September Family Members have started on their own to produce a music album and four of the Family Members continue to spend time together and continue building the Kin Makers Family.
