Fulham Palace August 2023

A really interesting visit to Fulham Palace House and Gardens.

Thirteen travelled on the 85 bus from Kingston, an eventful journey as the bus driver knocked off his left wing mirror on a parked lorry, so everybody had to get off and wait for the next bus. Then at Roehampton a short delay as the bus was crowded and space had to be made for a wheelchair with the driver shouting for people to make room!

A walk across Bishop's Park arriving in time for coffee and lunch. The weather was perfect and we had plenty of time to look around the house and gardens.

Fulham Palace is the historic home of the Bishops of London. Set close to the Thames in Bishop's Park the Palace reflects 1,300 of occupation by the Bishops.

13 acres of botanic garden include a peaceful walled garden at the centre, the 500 year old holm oak and the new Compton beds with varieties of plants originally brought to the Palace in the 1700s.

The stunning architecture of the building dates from Tudor, Georgian and Victorian times. The museum celebrates the site's long history and the people who lived and worked there from the Romans to the present day.
