We start our design process looking at all the required NZQA documentation.
For externals, this means we align our resources with:
Achievement Standard
Assessment Specifications
Learning Matrix
Subject Learning Outcomes
Past Examinations
Past Assessment Schedules
Past Assessment Reports
If changes are made to these or if clarifying information is released about the examinations, then we will modify resources accordingly before release (June 29th).
After release (June 29th), we will advise schools of any changes needed.
We do our best to fit our examination resource packs with the following framework.
The practice examination looks and feels like a real NZQA examination in content and style
There are no surprise questions outside the standard or curriculum
All of the standard is broadly covered with no large gaps of missing methods or concepts
Questions are clear and understandable, with relevant context information
The questions gauge understanding allowing good feedback to students on their next steps
All resources have been carefully moderated and checked, but they have not been trialed with students under examination conditions. Some standards or questions may be moderated by other teachers on an ad hoc basis. We do not have the resources to have these examination resource packs checked by NZQA.
With full disclosure, some ChatGPT and other AI will have been used to support the writing process with feedback and data on word count, reading level, curriculum alignment, typographical errors and mathematical correctness of answers. Examination questions are almost entirely created by Liz and Jamie Sneddon; the 'creative process' is still almost entirely human.
