Before You Start
Meet with Dr Clevenger
The first step is setting up a time to meet with Dr Clevenger. Some things to think about before this meeting:
How much time you can/want to commit to the lab
Your short-term goals (see below)
Your expectations
CITI training
Everyone (!!) must complete this training on the protection of research participants (more information/instructions here) before you can start working in the lab.
Complete the KHS Volunteers Form
This form must be completed and sent to Kim.
Background check
If you will be working directly with children (not just analyzing data), you need to complete a background check.
Brainstorm some goals
We will talk about your goals, so this doesn't have to be set in stone, but it is helpful for you to do some pre-meeting brainstorming. Here are some example skills you may be interested in learning:
Coding in R
Presentation skills (or conference presentations)
Scientific writing
Grant writing
Data collection
Data analysis
Project conception/design
Project management
Accelerometry (or physical activity measurement)
Mapping, geographic data analysis, or GIS
