Ph.D. title: Contributions to Monitoring, Anomaly Detection, and Classification Using Artificial Intelligence and Statistical Methods: Applications in Smart Manufacturing and Healthcare
Ph.D. thesis abstract: The convergence of advanced technologies- artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), cloud computing, and edge analytics innovations catalyzed the transformation of manufacturing into the digital paradigm of Industry 4.0. Moving beyond automation, the emergent Industry 5.0 vision emphasizes sustainability, human-centered design, and resilient systems. This thesis contributes to this evolving landscape by developing robust and explainable frameworks for monitoring, anomaly detection, and classification, tailored to the dual domains of smart manufacturing and healthcare.
Grounded in over a decade of practical experience in AI and aligned with the strategic objectives of the International Chair in Data Science and Explainable Artificial Intelligence (DS \& XAI), the research unfolds across three interconnected pillars. First, it introduces adaptive, privacy-preserving anomaly detection and classification frameworks for smart healthcare applications using federated learning and explainable AI techniques. These models enable real-time, decentralized analysis of sensitive health data, supporting predictive and personalized healthcare delivery.
Second, the work advances AI integration into sustainable industrial practices by enhancing anomaly detection and prognostics in smart manufacturing. By combining federated learning, blockchain, and machine learning algorithms, the proposed systems prioritize security, fairness, and transparency—core principles of Industry 5.0—while also optimizing process efficiency and operational resilience.
Third, the thesis leverages statistical computing and industrial statistics, including control charts and reliability analysis, to improve process monitoring, quality control, and decision-making in industrial environments. These methodologies contribute to the broader goal of bridging theoretical AI research with practical, impactful implementations.
This research is closely connected to the REVALOTEX (2023–2026) project and benefits from international collaborations between Dong A University (Vietnam) and ENSAIT–University of Lille (France), under the auspices of the International Chair's International Research Institute for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science’ hosted in Dong A University, Vietnam. It reinforces the Chair's mission of fostering Trustworthy, Transparent, Ethical, and Human-Centered AI while contributing to the training of future leaders in sustainable AI systems. By formalizing this work through the Validation of Acquired Professional Experience (VPA) and doctoral research, this thesis establishes a foundation for leading transdisciplinary and globally relevant innovation in the Industry 5.0 era.
