Enthusiastic Educator - Instructional Designer - Lifelong Learner

About Me

My name is Kimberly Lohr. I currently work as teacher designing and delivering in-person and virtual instruction. Teaching was my first passion, and it has lead me to discovering another passion in instructional design. I have spent 10+ years developing my knowledge and skills in the field of instructional Design.

Thinking back, I've always loved and excelled in the field of instructional design. While pursing my undergraduate degree in 2010, I served as a member of a Curriculum Development team for a nonprofit organization. We worked collaboratively to develop, design, and publish a state-wide curriculum focusing on cold water ecology.

It is my dream to work on an ID team at the collegiate level so that I can use my strong project management, design, and technology skills to help others, while also fueling my love for learning new content across all subjects by working with Subject-Matter Experts.

Abstract

This action research study investigates the positive effect of a self-regulatory revision strategy in a 5th grade writing classroom. The study focuses on implementing a six-week instructional unit that teaches students how to identify problems and make meaningful revisions to an opinion essay. Participants also learn the difference between surface level changes and meaningful revisions. The focus of the study is to give students a strategy that allows them to become more confident and self-motivated to revise their writing in a meaningful way.

Go-to Podcast

When I go for walks, I often listen to podcasts and audiobooks. Implementing digital rubrics and providing more opportunities for students to become involved in the process of assessment are two strategies that I've recently implemented as a result of this self-directed learning.
