Overarching competency #1 – Interpersonal effectiveness (Evidence A)
I would place myself at the pre-emerging level for this competency. My rationale is I need to learn more effective techniques for working with colleagues. I struggle to communicate effectively with all parties involved in the educational process. In addition, I have a vision of what good science education looks like to me. But, in order to reach a transforming level, I need to share that vision in a way that will work for the majority as well as have input on what works for others.
Overarching competency #2 – Adult Learning (Evidence A)
I would place myself at the pre-emerging level for this competency as well. As I look at the evidence statements for the transforming level, developing professional learning opportunities for colleagues, targeted to their specific needs is a goal of mine. However, I do not investigate ways in which adults learn or research ways in which adult learning impacts student success.
Diversity, Equity and Cultural Competency (Evidence A)
At the beginning of this TLI journey, I was definitely pre-emerging to emerging in the Explore and Challenge Inequity competency. To be honest, I didn’t give it much thought since my school is mostly white. I felt like we didn’t have much diversity so it wasn’t really an issue. I feel I recognized inequities based on economic differences and am working to educate myself regarding cultural differences within our district.
Instructional Leadership competency (Evidence A)
I chose coaching and mentoring as my Instructional Leadership competency. Because of all the committees I am a part of, this competency seemed to lend itself best to my needs. I placed myself at the developing stage for this competency. I have always strived to develop professionally beyond my current practice and am always looking for ways to improve by working collaboratively and attending workshops. My door is always open for others to observe and I have had several teachers come visit my room over the years.
