October: Cute drag king gets on a stage at Capitol Pride in Frankfort, Kentucky. I add him on Facebook.
November: Said boy reaches out to say he's a writer, too (but not really). We speak briefly, but go on with our lives.
January: Same cute boy reaches out again to praise my work. Obviously he's looking for something more. He asks to meet up. I set a time for him to come to my house to pick me up. He shows up without letting me know he was on his way! We go to a local Mexican restaurant. He has to use the bathroom at least 12 times.
February: We're already dating. He says I love you first.
September: We are engaged.
The rest, as they say, is history (or herstory).

Sam and I took a trip to my family's holler in Yerkes, Kentucky. We jumped out of the car, grabbed our bags, and before we headed up the steep hill to my family's ancestral home, I dropped to one knee. I said something along the lines of 'this is the home I grew up in, and you are the home I want to grow old with'. No one was there to witness it which I will never live down, but in the interest of time I wanted it to happen sooner rather than later since the Supreme Court was considering whether or not to take up the case of marriage equality at the time.
We spent some time with my mother and extended family who came to visit us. We all hung out on the porch and Sam and I sat on the porch swing chit chatting as she got to know the people that shaped me.
