If I Could Be Anywhere Else, Where Would I Go?
Meet Kiki.
Like many children living with cancer, she faces fear, isolation and painful procedures.
Yet, imagination can offer comfort, connection, and opportunities to explore beyond the hospital room.
Standing in a blank space just before she TelePORTS, Kiki invites us to wonder: Where would your imagination take you?
Why this matters
Kiki TelePORTS aims to empower children with cancer and their families by sharing knowledge rooted in lived experience.
The image shows Kiki in a blank space, inviting viewers to consider the disruption of childhood cancer and the possibilities of imagination. Where might she go? Who might join her?
These questions encourage families, healthcare providers, and researchers to consider what matters to the child and which resources, activities, and community connections could support comfort, interests, and healthy development.
Cancer can disrupt play, exploration, and relationships. Supporting these childhood needs is an essential part of family-centred care. Kiki TelePORTS explores how imagination and connection can help children make choices, express themselves, and participate in meaningful experiences throughout treatment and beyond.
"Where will you go today?" invites conversations beyond cancer, building rapport through a child's interests, imagination, and hopes.
Co-developed with Kiki, a childhood cancer survivor, this work brings youth perspectives into conversations and recognizes children and families as partners whose experiences, needs, and preferences can guide the development of resources that support their care.
