About Kigalia Fine Arts
Kigalia Fine Arts Council (KFA) brings the vibrant arts of San Juan County and the surrounding communities to life with exciting live performances, dynamic dance events, inspiring art exhibits, and hands-on workshops. Year-round, we champion local talent and actively participate in inclusive community events, celebrating the diverse culture and creativity of our region.
The word Kigalia comes from the Diné word Kaa'yelii. It is named after a Diné leader, Hastii Kaa'yelii (“One With Quiver,” 1801–1894), who led his people away from danger posed by the Utes and the United States government. He guided them to the Bears Ears region, where they never surrendered and became one of the few Diné groups to avoid the Long Walk, the forced deportation and ethnic cleansing of the Navajo by the U.S. government.
