Filming & Editing Videos
Lesson OUTLINE:
Artists will learn how to plan and sketch their pictorial storyboards, film and edit the footage to be compiled and presented. This provides them a skill to document their personal art experiences or to share an art skill they have learned.
Lesson 1: Introduction to the basics of video production. Teacher to share the steps of making a basic “how-to” video from start to finish. How to write a script, sketch a storyboard and plan the list of props needed (preferably what’s available in the Art Room). Bring props to the next lesson.
Lesson 2: Learn the basics of videography. Rule of 3rds, filming angles, speed of movement of shots etc. Film the introduction. Continue filming based on script and storyboard.
Lesson 3: Finish filming. Upload footage to CapCut. Learn how to cut, edit and delete footage with CapCut.
Lesson 4: Continue editing video. Learn to add a title and music to the footage.
Lesson 5: Finish editing video. Upload to private YouTube channel. Show finished videos.
Lesson 6: Finishing touches. Prepare for Gallery Walk.
LESSON 1:
Examples:
Video example with background music and no voice-over.
Video example with voice-over instructions.
Lesson 2:
Partner up. Work in pairs to film.
Take turns to be a videographer for your partner's video and a director for your own video.
Explain your art lesson to your partner with your storyboard sketches from lesson 1.
Describe the shots you plan to take to your partner (videographer).
Rehearse and direct your partner on when you want him/her to change the filming angle.
Film your "how-to" videos. Film it at least 2 times from start to finish.
Limit your entire lesson to under 5 minutes.
FILMING RULES:
Film in landscape (wide) format. Not portrait (tall). Videos on YouTube are viewed in landscape mode.
Go to a well-lit area that the lighting can be consistent during your filming. Note if there are any shadows.
Choose a suitable background and backdrop. Is it distracting?
Frame your shot excluding items or backgrounds you don't want.

Lesson 3-6:
Now it's time to create your videos...
YOUR VIDEO PROJECT MUST INCLUDE:
A screenshot photo of the final outcome of your art project with a title inserted at the beginning of the video.
Add captions at the bottom of video describing the action at each stage.
All videos must have a sound track added. Reduce volume in original footage to "0".
Film additional footage and add it if it is needed to improve the flow of your art video tutorial.
