The Tax will be based on gross pay. Yes, to both. Anything included in the modified adjusted gross income on your tax return is subject to the income tax.

NO! You can request an 'ISSUE ONLY' ballot. This will allow you to support the levy with a YES vote on the earned income tax levy and maintain your Independent status. 

According to a recent staff audit, Jackson City Schools is comparable to other districts in our area when it comes to administration. While these roles are not classroom positions, they are absolutely vital to making sure the district runs efficiently and meets the needs of students and staff every single day.

Just like any successful business relies on administration to operate effectively, school districts require specially trained professionals to ensure we are:

• following state-mandated programs and compliance requirements

• meeting the diverse needs of our students

• maintaining buildings, safety, and technology

• providing proper oversight at the building and district level

It’s also important to note that Jackson is not top-heavy with administration. In fact, we have an administrator retiring this year, and that position is not being backfilled or rehired.

There are also state requirements that mandate a certain number of administrative roles per building, and Jackson strictly follows those requirements. We do not maintain unnecessary positions, and we continue to evaluate staffing responsibly to ensure resources are being used where they are needed most.

The facts matter, and the facts show that Jackson is operating within reasonable and required staffing standards—not carrying excess administrative weight.

The best answer is it depends on how the business is set up and how they pay themselves. This is not a 'one size fits all' answer. A business would need to ask their accountant on the specifics of their individual business.
