The career I want to pursue is electrical engineering. I decided to pursue this career because two years ago, I went with my stepfather, Nicholas, to his work (J.F. Taylor). My dad showed me the projects he was working on; at the time, it was the MH60R and flight simulators. I got to fly one during their family day. From that moment on, I knew this was what I wanted to do.
I have taken Algebra 1 and Geometry Honors to help me get closer to achieving my dream of becoming an electrical engineer. In my junior and senior years, I will continue to take more advanced-level mathematical classes to help further prepare me. In addition, I enrolled in engineering at the tech center. I have just started at the tech center, but they have already helped expand my critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
I currently do not participate in any school extracurricular activities. However, I am hoping to get into track and field in the spring. Outside of school, I am currently doing BMX racing. I have been racing for three years. It helps me learn to set a goal and to achieve it over time. This sport has also gotten me thinking about all the technological advances that are needed. I hope to create something for BMX riders that will help make training conditions safer. I have not been employed yet; however, I have participated in many family events through my stepfather's job at J. F. Taylor. He has also helped me build cables and learn new skills related to my career choice.
Upon graduation from high school, I will be applying to a college. I want to attend MIT, as it has the best electrical engineering program currently in the United States. I hope to attend for four years and earn my Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering. During my studies, I hope to intern at various companies to expand my career field knowledge and gain experience. Upon graduation, I hope to be offered a job opportunity.
Currently, I live in the Patuxent River region in Southern Maryland. This area has a high concentration of engineering jobs. By achieving my degree this will add more strength to that community. Engineering is a growing career field, and the need for engineers will only increase over time. So, by achieving my career goal, I can help meet the demand. I hope to help contribute to making our world a more sustainable, technologically advanced society. I believe I will leave a lasting, positive impact in the career field and more importantly, in my town. I can show other kids that you can achieve anything as long as you put your mind to it and can think outside the box.
