Dear Kiawah River Friends and Neighbors,
Life along the river is beautiful, but as we all know, it sometimes comes with its share of challenges. Over the past week, our community experienced an extraordinary 10 inches of rainfall in just 24 hours—a deluge that left its mark on every corner of Johns Island. For us here at The Goatery at Kiawah River, the storm turned our pastures and pathways into a sea of mud and puddles.
While the rain tested us, we are grateful to share that all of our animals are safe and well. The goats, donkeys, cows, pigs, and chickens weathered the storm calmly, reminding us once again of their resilience and the joy they bring to this farm and community.
Like many of you, we are in the midst of cleanup and adjustment. The storm’s impact has been felt in several ways:
Muddy Pastures & Trails – What were once lush fields for grazing are now waterlogged and messy. We’re working hard to restore safe spaces for the herd and for visitors.
Animal Care – Goats may be playful and hardy, but standing water can be tough on hooves and overall health. Our team is giving extra attention to keep them comfortable and well.
Creamery & Farm Activities – Milking routines and cheese-making haven’t stopped, but the rain has slowed things down. Activities like farm tours and goat yoga may experience some delays until conditions improve.
Community Connections – Restaurants and neighbors who enjoy our fresh cheeses and milk might notice brief disruptions, but rest assured, we’re committed to bouncing back quickly.
The rain may have made the farm a little messy, but it also reminded us how special this community is. Your kind words, visits, and support mean more than ever during times like this. The Goatery isn’t just a farm—it’s a part of Kiawah River’s heartbeat, where people of all ages come to connect with nature, animals, and each other.
We know cleanup will take some time, but we’re confident that with sunshine, patience, and the helping spirit of this community, the farm will soon return to its lively, welcoming self.
The puddles will dry, the grass will green again, and before long we’ll be hosting you for Goat Yoga sessions, Goats & Gourds, and everyday farm fun. If this storm taught us anything, it’s that the bonds between neighbors, farmers, and animals make us stronger and more resilient.
Thank you for being part of our journey, for celebrating the good days with us, and for standing by us when the rain falls hardest. We can’t wait to welcome you back to a refreshed Goatery—muddy hooves, smiling faces, and all.
With gratitude,
The Goatery at Kiawah River Team
