Context:
Students select a common household task in specific areas of the home, observing family members' behaviors and attitudes while they perform this chosen task. Based on these observations, students propose a product solution that improves the user experience and addresses the needs of all family members.
Building on the proposed solution, students implement this solution within home zones. The goal is to create an improved space solution that not only satisfies the needs but also aligns with the needs of all family members.

Observation and Direction
Food preparation includes 3 main parts, Ingredient preparation, cooking and clean up. However, the complexity of the dish will likely affect how often you are switching between cooking/preparing the ingredients for cooking. In between the process of prepping ingredients and cooking there is many times we find ourselves washing our hands/dishes/ingredients to be hygienic. People have differing preferences and needs. However for disabled people they require a lot of effort just to make a simple meal (observation from making a simple instant noodle meal with one arm: at the end of the day I just wanted to satisfy my hunger and did not care about the appearance too much), if the process of making food to satisfy your needs takes too much effort, people would simply go for efficiency & taste thus a less complex dish is their goal. But if healthy aspect is also included, they would simply be wary of the ingredients they prepared.
Prototype
I created a 1 pot meal appliance using steaming as its main form of food preparation method and an aided kitchen countertop that reduces the need for movement around the kitchen.

Kaigara
Overview
Kaigara is a universally designed five room flat, with the main users in mind, the one arm user, the visually impaired, hearing impaired user and a child of 145cm in height. Kaigara stands for seashell, like the seashells, it has a unqiue flow at the core of its interior and is a safe space. Following a few key design elements based on the 3 extreme users and child, it was created to answer the how might we statement 'how might we create a space that can be used without the help of external Parties, by all 3 extreme users and child in order for them to feel a sense of independence with ease?’
