The Eden

Context:
Tasked to do city exploration on a map given to each student (My Slice is a journey between 2 points in Singapore roughly 1.04km) to acquire new findings on the differentiation of activities, spatial elements, existing interaction, objects and various stakeholders. After which, we are tasked to do spatial realization based off our findings and analyses of intangible data.

Data Collection

Light was present throughout the entire slice, light also was a small part of the electromagnetic radiation and thus I decided to look into how light radiation can affect me in my slice, making data collection device.

Arm Gear Intention: making use of glass lens to concentrate the surroundings filled with 'light' of my slice onto a single point to record the raw brightness and color of the electromagnetic spectrum and how it changes as the sun sets or how artificial 'lights' come in contact with the different parts of my body and affects my emotions &/ behavior

Head Gear Intention: Most movement found are the head and the arm region thus more data on my behavior is made obvious thus these 2 body location

My Slice Study Model

(applying laser cutting and model making skills)
I created my unique slice in 3D using laser cutting and Styrofoam for a better understanding of my slice at various sections as well.

Spatial Realization

Observation and Research Analysis

  • At night, I avoid places with more light when I can, likely because of the people who usually walk on paths whom I avoid. another reason could be because of the glaring artificial light that my eyes like to avoid after staring at screens for so long

  • There is a wider range of visible light in the day because of the solar radiation which the sun emits

  • I feel more tired at night, likely because of fatigue from walking all day/ the sleep cycle kicking in/the cool environment of the night.

  • I get drawn in by light that slowly stretches out in a long gradient instead of highly contrasted and sudden light emission

Making Sense of the Intangible

Since I am unable to measure the radiation (invisible light) I made use of the filtering to highlight the zones in the video data that light does not come in contact as much

“CAN OTHER FORMS OF RADIATION ASIDE FROM VISIBLE LIGHT AFFECT THE WAY WE EXPERIENCE CERTAIN SPACES? “

Positive Radiation

Objective
The Eden is a sanctuary for people to rest. To spread the love back to nature, let people take a breather within the hectic environment and to hopefully let them break free from the chains of their own mind, directing your own life. Positively radiating out of my space.

Activities
Maze Exploration - The maze is made for people to enter and exit from any direction it acts as sound proofing wall for the sanctuary as well.

Resting Zone - The sanctuary is meant for people to relax on the scalable carpet grass hill enjoying the reflection of the wall or the intimate cozy natural environment of the sanctuary

Seed Dispersal - The last zone is where the seeds of the world tree are meant for taking and planting elsewhere to spread the love back to mother nature.

The Eden

Overview
The tree at its core is like the world tree, capable of unthinkable feats and maintains the world well. It spreads its seeds by attracting people to travel through the maze into the peaceful sanctuary where the world tree resides. Holding all its seeds at its core, beaming with a radiant light beckoning people to take a few of its seeds to grow elsewhere. The ephemeral surreal sanctuary where office workers or tourists can come and experience, taking back a few seeds to plant, spreading the love back to mother nature.

Focused on creating a sanctuary for people to take a short breather from the hectic working environment. The thought of sanctuary links back to a nature reserve as well, with a large encompassing tree at the core of this space, it radiates out a scalable patch of grass hill for people to rest on, it is protected by the walls of a thick foggy maze keeping the space mostly sound proof. Free from the treacherous environment outside. If one is discerning enough, they might be able to gain certain enlightenment through the maze which safe keeps the sanctuary.
