Biography

Byoung Hooi Cho is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Kyung Hee University and the director of the Innovative & Sustainable Materials and Road Technology Laboratory (i-SMART). He received his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin, where his doctoral research focused on continuously reinforced concrete pavement (CRCP), and earned his M.S. and B.S. degrees from Kyung Hee University.

Before joining Kyung Hee University in 2025, he served as an Assistant Professor at Sangmyung University, a research associate at the University of Central Florida, and an engineering manager at Samsung C&T's Civil Infra Business Unit. His experience across industry and academia has shaped a research program that bridges fundamental materials science with practical challenges in transportation infrastructure.

His research focuses on sustainable and intelligent road infrastructure, with particular interests in advanced cement-based materials, pavement materials and systems, nanotechnology-enabled durability enhancement, and sensor- and AI-enabled infrastructure assessment.
