Dual Enrollment

KING Dual Enrollment Guide

 

1.    Go online to www.hccfl.edu/dualenrollment first.  Look over the information.

2.    GPA: You must have an unweighted GPA of 3.0 or higher.

3.    Apply online: the link is on the Dual Enrollment website.  You will need to create an account and select that you are a dual enrollment student.

4.    Test Scores: Go to HCC and take the PERT (if you don’t have qualifying SAT or ACT scores).  Qualifying test scores are posted on the dual enrollment website. For HCC test center information: www.hccfl.edu/admissions/dual-enrollment/testing

5.    Choose classes:  Use the Course Equivalency List and Dual Enrollment Advising Guide (both are on the dual enrollment site) for help.  

Note: KING counselors cannot advise you on which classes to take towards your college degree.  

6.    Form B: Pick up the form in the Guidance lobby. Complete the form and bring it to guidance for a counselor signature.

Note: If you choose to take classes, you need for graduation you must list them in the spaces provided.  Otherwise, check the “elective” box.

7.    Counselor signature: Bring your completed Form B to the Dual Enrollment Drop-off tray in the Guidance office.  Your counselor will sign the form and print a Permanent Record Summary.  Pick up forms the next business day.

8.    Send forms to HCC:  Email or fax Form B and your summary sheet to HCC (dualenrollment@hccfl.edu or 813-253-7061). HCC will email you with the next steps.  Do not take paperwork to HCC!

9.    Schedule & Textbooks:  Bring your schedule to your Counselor.  Your Counselor will activate your textbook account (if necessary).  See the HCC dual enrolment site for more information on how to order textbooks.

Additional Dual Enrollment Notes

 

1.    Students are limited to 10 credit hours per term, not to exceed 30 credit hours per academic year.

2.    Students must maintain a high school GPA of 3.0 (unweighted) and an HCC GPA of 2.0 to remain eligible for dual enrollment.

3.    Students must provide a copy of their college schedule to their high 1school Counselor.

4.    Any courses registered for, and grades received, become a permanent part of the student’s high school and college record. 

5.    Students are expected to be aware of the drop/add/withdrawal deadlines for each of their courses.  This information can be found on the HCC website and the student’s online portal through HCC.

6.    Required textbooks are provided at no cost to the student.  However, the student may be responsible for other textbook affiliated costs such as licensing fees or electronic media access codes. 

7.    Students are responsible for ordering and returning textbooks.  Previous semester textbooks must be returned before new semester orders will be processed.

8.    FERPA, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, is a federal law that protects students’ rights to privacy regarding their student records. All college students have rights under FERPA, even those who are younger than 18 years of age. Students who wish to give permission to their parents to access their academic, financial, and/or registration records will be required to submit a FERPA release form to HCC.

9.    Students will be attending classes with students of various ages and backgrounds while on an HCC campus. Students will be in a learning environment that explores a diverse and open range of ideas that requires a mature understanding of multiple perspectives.  Students must be able to engage in discussion in a mature and responsible manner.
