Hello! I am Ms. Chacon, your librarian! This is my 21st year of teaching--previously, I have taught high school English, middle school library resources, and elementary library resources, as well as community college writing. This is my 15th year as a librarian. I have a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Houston and a Master of Library Science from Sam Houston State University.
My certifications include grades EC-12 Library Resources; grades 4-12 English/Language Arts; NISE STEM Teacher certification; Future Ready Librarian: Empowering Students as Creators certification; LEGO Education Master Educator status; Ozobot Certified Educator; Sphero Certified Educator; Epic Master Teacher; and Amazon Future Engineer Teacher Ambassador. I am also a SHSU Distinguished Educator (2024).
In 2024, I was awarded national School Librarian of the Year by Scholastic and School Library Journal.
I believe the library is a place where all students are welcome to explore their interests and creativity. #MyLibraryIsNotQuiet!
“Excellent examples of success. Librarian's desire to connect literacy with the 4 Cs is foundational to providing a well-rounded library program that allows students to develop a growth mindset. Program is inclusive and provides a safe place for students to explore and create.” - Future Ready Schools
