Integration of Wing Wall and Stack Ventilation for Indoor Thermal Performance
Thermal performance is one of the most important aspects to be considered when an architect is designing a space or a building. As most people nowadays spend more time in the indoor environment, architects must enhance the thermal performance of the indoor environment, especially for an educational building typology. The thermal performance of a classroom would affect the student’s learning process and learning efficiency. However, most of the educational buildings are unable to afford fully mechanical ventilated space. Hence, passive ventilation and shading strategies would be very important to enhance the thermal performance of the educational building. Wing wall is one of the architectural elements which contributes to passive ventilation strategies. Wing walls can to redirect the airflow and increase the air velocity if it is placed correctly.
