Synthetic organic chemistry provides the foundation for molecular innovation by enabling the precise construction of complex molecular architectures. Our laboratory seeks to advance the frontiers of chemical synthesis through the discovery of fundamentally new catalytic reactions and strategic bond-forming processes that simplify molecular construction while maximizing efficiency, selectivity, atom economy, and sustainability.
Specific Research Aims:
We develop catalytic cycloaddition strategies that leverage readily available heterocyclic compounds to rapidly generate structural complexity and access diverse molecular architectures.
We develop new bioisosteres to expand chemical space and provide structurally diverse molecular frameworks for the discovery of functional molecules in medicinal chemistry and chemical biology.
We develop step-efficient and sustainable synthetic strategies for the synthesis of structurally complex bioactive molecules, with the goal of expanding access to molecules of biological and therapeutic importance.
