Kharch ("the App") is a personal expense-tracking application developed by Gaurav Chaudhary ("we," "us," or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains how the App handles your information.
Kharch is offline-first. You can use the entire app as a guest without creating an account, in which case all your data stays only on your device and we never see it.
If you choose to sign in (via Google or phone number), the App additionally syncs your data to the cloud so it's available across devices. This policy explains what's collected in that case, and how it's protected.
If you use Kharch without signing in:
All expense, income, category, and preference data is stored only in a local database on your device.
We do not collect, receive, or have access to this data in any way.
Uninstalling the App permanently deletes this data, and we have no copy of it.
Signing in is entirely optional. If you choose to sign in, we collect:
Google sign-in: your name, email address, and Google account profile ID, as provided by Google Sign-In.
Phone sign-in: your phone number, verified via one-time password (OTP) through Firebase Authentication.
Your financial data: the expenses, income entries, and categories you create, which are synced from your device to our cloud database (Cloud Firestore) so they're available if you switch devices or reinstall the App.
If you started as a guest and later create an account, your existing local data is uploaded to your new account at that time.
To authenticate you and keep your account secure.
To sync and back up your expense/income data across your devices.
We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not sell or rent it to anyone.
Kharch uses the following third-party services to provide sign-in and sync functionality:
Firebase Authentication (Google, LLC) — handles Google sign-in and phone number/OTP verification.
Cloud Firestore (Google, LLC) — stores your synced expense, income, and category data.
These services process data on our behalf under Google's own privacy and security policies. We do not share your data with any other third party. You can review Google's privacy practices at https://policies.google.com/privacy.
Data is stored on Google Cloud infrastructure and may be processed in countries other than your own.
Each signed-in user's data is isolated and access-controlled: our Firestore security rules ensure your data can only be read or written by your own authenticated account — no other user, including us, can access it through the App.
You can delete individual expense or income entries at any time from within the App.
The Settings screen includes a "Delete all data" action, which erases your local data and, if you're signed in, your synced cloud data as well.
If you'd like your account and associated cloud data deleted and can't access the App, contact us at the email below and we will delete it on request.
Guest-mode data that is never synced is not retained by us in any form, since we never receive it.
Kharch is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Phone and Google sign-in are intended for users who meet the minimum age requirements of those respective services.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy, or wish to request deletion of your account data, please contact us at:
