Principal investigator

Dr. Mohammad Ryyan Khan

Dr. M. Ryyan Khan is the PI of Khan SLR Group. He completed his BSc from EEE, BUET in 2009. He served as a lecturer in the same department for one semester. After completing his PhD from Purdue University, USA in 2016, he worked as a post-doctoral research associate in Alam CEED group (Purdue).

Dr. Khan’s recent work and interest include bifacial solar farm design though numerical model and experiments, solar panel soiling analysis, agro-photovoltaics, floating-photovoltaics, electronic biosensors, and paper-based biosensors.

He was part of the development team of four online modeling and learning tools in nanoHUB: (i) OPV Lab models organic photovoltaics, (ii) PVLimits is a thermodynamic limit calculator for solar cells, (iii) PUMET summarizes insolation and various ambient conditions for solar panel analysis from different databases, and (iv) PUB models output of bifacial modules. Combined, these tools have over 1000 users. He is also a co-developer of PV-MAPS (A physics-based solar farm simulator) [Link]

Mohammad Didarul Islam

Mohammad Didarul Islam completed his B.Sc. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from East West University, Bangladesh in 2019. He joined the Khan SLR group in November 2020 as a research assistant. Didarul completed M.Sc. in Electrical, Electronic, and Communication Engineering (EECE) from the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) in 2023. During his master’s program, he worked on research titled “Effect of Soiling on Solar Panels: In-Field Output Characterization for Cleaning Cycle and Economic Analysis.” During his research, he focused on analyzing the effect of uniform and non-uniform soiling on PV panels. He also economically analyzed the effect of soiling on PV power plants. Recently, Didarul has been working on numerical analysis and experimental study of various cleaning intervention strategies for soiling-affected solar panels to maximize revenue. Besides his work as a research assistant, Didarul is also working as a lecturer in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Scholars. His research interests include power systems, renewable energy, modeling biosensors, IoT-based device applications, and machine learning.
