Returning to Camp Perry, OH for her last time competing in the National 3-P Championships, Paige Hollowell found success. This event is comprised of 2 matches. The first competition was the National 3-Position Air Rifle Junior Olympic Championship and the following day was the CMP National 3-Position Air Rifle Championship.
After travelling on Friday, Paige spent Saturday on registration and practice. The days leading up to this match, Paige was fighting a pretty bad summer cold. She was unsure how she was going to feel shooting, but fell right into her normal rhythm. After a good night sleep, she was ready for competition.
Walking onto the range for relay #3, Paige knew what she had to do as 2/3 of the competitors had already fired. She was relaxed and focused as shooting commenced, and after 3 positions and 60 shots, Paige found herself in 8th place, putting her into the finals competition.
After about an hour of rest, Paige and 7 other athletes lined up for what would end up being a very thrilling finals match. Paige, having never been in a national level finals match, was very excited to be there. This match is different that she has ever been in before. The match consisted of 3 groups of 5 shots in kneeling, 5 min changeover & sighters, then 3 groups of 5 shots in prone, 9 min changeover & sighters, then 2 groups of 5 shots in standing. It was then the bottom 2 athletes were eliminated. Then, single shot elimination shots were taken, until a winner was determined. Paige ended up finishing in 6th place.
This would end up being her most proud moment, competing against over 180 of the best shooters in the nation, and finishing in 6th place.
Day 2 brought on the CMP National Match. The format was identical to day 1. This time, Paige was on the first relay at 8am. Still feeling the emotions of the day before, she setup on the line, ready to have another great match. During this match she had a couple position issues, ending the match just 6 points below the day before. But 6 points would be the difference between 8th and 27th.
Overall, Paige is very pleased and felt this was her best performance to date. We here at KGYMP are very proud.
May 29-30, 2021
Paige Hollowell ended May on a high note!!! On May 29th & 30th, she awoke early and travelled to the Sills Air Range in Centerville, VA to compete in the 2021 Great American Rifle Open.
Day 1, her relay time was 10am. She put on a strong performance with a final score of 615.6, winning her relay. This score would hold until the last relay, when Emma Pereira of the Patriots Shooting Club pulled ahead with a 617.7.
Day 2 found Paige back on the line at an early 8am. This relay had all the top shooters from the day before. By the end of the relay, Paige had matched her personal best with a 617.2, but would only put her in 2nd as Nate Wehrlen from the ACORNS Shooting Club had his personal best with a 619.7.
The scores from both days were added together. This decided the top 8 shooters who would compete in the Winner-Take-All finals match at 2pm. This match would start at zero, so any of the 8 could win.
After the first 5 competition shots, Paige Hollowell was in 4th, then with a strong next 5, she moved into 2nd. The next shot, Paige moved into 1st place and remained there the rest of the match, winning the match. McKenzie Shedd and Nate Wehrlen of the ACORNS would take 2nd & 3rd respectively.

But day 2 brought out Paige's fighting spirit!!! She fired another high score of 615.8 that would hold throughout the day. Her combined score of 1232.0 put Paige into the top position going into the finals match.
During the finals match, Paige slowly & consistently worked her way past each competitor until she remained the last shooter standing! In a sport that is usually measured by tenths of a point between positions, Paige ended the match a full 2.5 points above the 2nd place shooter.

December 18-20, 2020
2020 has brought many changes to how large scale events are held. Last year, the Winter Air Gun Match was held in one location with everyone standing shoulder to shoulder.
This year, it was held in 3: Fort Benning, GA; Anniston, AL; and Camp Perry, OH. At each location, social distancing was achieved by utilizing every other firing point. All 3 locations were shooting at the same time so the relays would match up.
Paige Hollowell traveled to Camp Perry on the same day as a dangerous winter storm was hitting the region. Luckily, they left early enough to outrun the storm.
Once the match began, she got to work. Focusing intently on the task at hand, and after 2 days of shooting, she was proud of her performance. She was standing on the range with Olympian Ginny Thrasher & Lucas Kozeniesky and 2021 olympian Mary Tucker is a humbling experience.
Paige ended up finishing with a 1219.4 putting her 54/247. This puts her in the to 25% overall. Breaking things down a little more, she ranked 37/223 in the Junior Category which is in the top 20%. This is a big improvement from her performance in last years Winter Air Gun.
