The Kerala Govt Polytechnic College, Westhill was established in 1946 , one of the oldest polytechnic colleges in Kerala. The college was inaugurated by the honourable Sri.V V Giri , BAR-AT-LAW , minister for industries and labour , Govt. of Madras on 23rd November 1946. Sri.Sreenivas Rao was the first principal. Over the years the intake of students increased and as of now with six full-fledged departments offering six engineering diploma programmes such as Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Tool & Die Engineering under the Department of Technical Education, Kerala.
The college has a well-established library spread over an area of 320 meter squre with comfortable seating arrangements for more than 50 students. The library is equipped with the necessary learning resources to promote research and self-learning. The latest editions of technical books are procured annually and made available for circulation and reference. The collection comprises 31574 books, including Reference, Gift/Complimentary Books. Around 200+ literature books in Malayalam and English are available for circulation .The library has a yearly subscription to 20 National and International Journals
The library's Learning Resource Center offers a comprehensive range of resources and services to support the academic and research needs of students, faculty, and staff. In addition to internet, Wi-Fi, users have access to online databases including KNIMBUS and DELNET, as well as other reference services. The center also provides automated literature searches and remote library access through its website, which features print journal content pages, course syllabus, past question papers, and college magazines. Additionally, the library offers e-books, e-journals, and online courses through NPTEL .
The Central Library operates using the open-source integrated library management software "KOHA,". Additionally, an electronic Gate register (Inout management system) records visits to the library Automated library inout management system is an electronic alternative to gate register to record the visit (Entry and Exit) of the users of the library The library's collection is efficiently organized based on subject, following the DDC Classification scheme.
