About Department-
The Department of Economics came into existence with the establishment of Kokrajhar Govt. College in 1959. The Department introduced for the first time Honours / Major Courses in Economics in 1975. Department of Economics is introducing M.A./M.Sc. course from the session-2021-22 after getting permission to open PG Course in Economics (vide Ref. letter no. BU/CUDC/75/KGC/2016-17/2808 dated 20-09-2021) from the Bodoland University.
Since its inception, the department has been rendering its continuous services by its qualified faculties for filling the needs and aspirations of the people of Kokrajhar area in particular and the people of Bodoland Territorial Region along with other adjacent parts of Assam in general.

The Department is affiliated to Assam Higher Secondary Education Council for Higher Secondary (10+2) courses both in Science and Arts with 300 seats intact capacity (150 x 2 sections)
Eligibility conditions to apply for admission into H.S First year Economics Course
ARTS : 40% or above marks in aggregate in the HSLC or equivalent Examination
SCIENCE : 45% marks in General Science and General Mathematics each.
Eligibility criterion for appearing in different examinations for HS students
Unit Test : Minimum 75% class attendance during the prescribed period
Final / Promotion Exam : Minimum 75% class attendance during the whole session & Attendance in all Unit Test Examinations.
BA/BSc Degree Course in Economics (Semester under CBCS)

Courses Offered
The Department is affiliated to Gauhati University, Guwahati & Bodoland University, Kokrajhar for Three Year Degree Course (Semester System) in both Science and Arts streams. The Department offers both Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) course for Arts students and Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) course for Science students. The course consists of Six (6) Semesters, two (2) Semesters in one academic year. The College offers Honours / Major & Generic Courses for both Arts and Science with 50 seats intact capacity for Honours/Major and 150 seats for Generic course .
Eligibility conditions to apply for admission into BA/BSc First Semester Economics Honours Course
ARTS : 40% or above marks in aggregate in the HS or equivalent Examination
SCIENCE : 45% marks in General Science and General Mathematics each.
Eligibility criterion for appearing in different examinations for HS students
Unit Test : Minimum 75% class attendance during the prescribed period
Final / Promotion Exam : Minimum 75% class attendance during the whole session & Attendance in all Unit Test Examinations.

Courses Offered
PG course in Economics has been introduced in the Department (20-09-2021, Ref no- BU/CUDC/75/KGC/2016-17/2808) from the Session-2021-22 under Bodoland University.
Seat Capacity : 25 (twenty-five) only.
Eligibility conditions to apply for admission into MA/MSc First Semester in Economics
ARTS : 40% or above marks in aggregate in the BA/BSc or equivalent Examinations.
SCIENCE : 45% marks in General Science and General Mathematics each.
In order of Merit based on Marks secured in Entrance Examination conducted by the Department.
Eligibility criterion for appearing in Semester Examinations.
Unit Test : Minimum 75% class attendance during the prescribed period
Final / Promotion Exam : Minimum 75% class attendance during the whole session & Attendance in all Unit Test Examinations.
