I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know my classmates and Professor Eriksen in ENG 210. Constructive feedback from both my classmates and Professor Eriksen, including suggestions on areas to explore further and those to narrow, has strengthened my projects and helped me become a better writer. I've realized that I need to work on my organization, particularly by adding more information to my outline. This will help me know when to stop finding sources instead of continuously adding more.
I’ve also enjoyed researching and writing about various topics, including my Slovak culture, Appalachia, Western Pennsylvania, and September 11, 2001. I now have a newfound appreciation for my culture and dialect.
I’m proud that I had the faith in myself to leave the field of education (after 18 years) to pursue my passion for writing. This summer was challenging, to say the least. I took this class along with ENG 115, continued working as a STEM writer for NOVA and a local newspaper, and continued raising my two kids alongside my husband. But even though I’ve been "busy as a bee in a tar bucket," I can now look back with a sense of accomplishment.
