DENIED
Keziah Vann
Later Isaac Vann returned to the Cherokee Nation East to his old home in the Sweetwater Valley. He had abandoned his white wife (Louvenia Schrimsher) and took a Cherokee wife(name unknown). Isaac also visited the home of a whiteman named Martin Maney, whose wife Keziah Vann (born ca.1763) was said to be the sister (or more likely 1/2 sister) of Isaac Vann's father John Oowanna Vann ( testimony of Nehimah Blackstock, 9/21/1855, RG 75, Special File #102).The very numerous progeny of Martin Maney and Keziah Vann were often challenged as to their Cherokee heritage, and were investigated several times (1855, 1872, 1906, and 1911) by the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The Maneys were listed on some of the Cherokee rolls and rejected on others.Keziah Vann was the daughter of a 1/2 blood named John Vann and a white woman named Agnes Weatherford (who later married a white man named Burleson).
The husband of Agnes Weatherford and father of Keziah was likely the 1/2 blood John Vann, who was the brother of Waw-li Vann and the uncle of chief James Vann.
Another wife of John Vann was Mary (daughter of Chief Terrapin) and mother of George Vann (born 1793 ), the first student at the Moravian school at Spring Place, GA.John probably had another and older Cherokee wife, who was the mother of John Oowanna Vann and grandmother of Isaac Vann and siblings.
That Uncle John Vann had 2 Cherokee and 1 white wives remains a conjecture, and has not yet been proved or supported by historical records.
I once believed that John Vann and Mary Terrapin (parents of student George Vann) were identical to John Oowanna Vann and Mary (parents of Isaac Vann et al.), but the Moravian Diaries at Spring Place prove that George Vann's father was deceased in 1805 and his mother remarried.
Somehow, John Oowanna Vann was related to the other Vanns.
