# Privacy Policy for Transcript & Summary for YouTube

Effective date: September 1, 2026

## Overview

Transcript & Summary for YouTube extracts caption data made available on the current YouTube video page and displays it as continuous transcript text or timestamped text. It can also create an optional summary through the Google Gemini API when the user explicitly requests that feature.

The extension does not display ads, does not use analytics or tracking, and does not sell, rent, or share user data for advertising, profiling, or unrelated purposes.

## Data the extension accesses

The extension accesses the current YouTube page and its available caption or transcript data so it can provide its user-facing transcript features. It may read the current video identifier and caption metadata needed to retrieve the transcript.

The extension does not collect or transmit the user's general browsing history.

## Transcript and timestamped text

Transcript extraction is performed for the current YouTube video. Google Gemini is not contacted for the Transcript or Timestamped Text features. Transcript text and generated views are kept in the current page's memory and are not uploaded to a server operated by the extension developer.

## Optional Google Gemini summary

The Google Gemini API is contacted only when the user explicitly selects Create Summary or Save and Continue for a summary. The extension then sends the following information to the Google Gemini API:

- The available video transcript.

- An instruction asking Gemini to create a summary in the language selected by the user.

- The user's Gemini API key in the request authentication header.

The extension does not send the video file, the user's YouTube account, or the user's viewing history to Gemini. Google's processing of information sent to Gemini is governed by Google's own terms and privacy policies.

## Information stored locally

The selected interface language and the optional Gemini API key are stored in chrome.storage.local in the user's Chrome profile. Access to this storage is restricted to trusted extension contexts where supported by Chrome. The API key is not returned to the YouTube page or exposed to page scripts.

The user can replace the saved API key in the extension settings. The saved information can also be removed by clearing the extension's stored data or uninstalling the extension.

## Data retention and sale

The extension developer does not operate a server that receives or stores transcripts, summaries, API keys, YouTube account information, or browsing history. The extension does not sell user data and does not use user data for advertising or creditworthiness decisions.

## Third-party services

- YouTube provides the caption data requested for the current video.

- Google Gemini API processes transcript text only when the optional summary feature is requested by the user.

## Changes to this policy

If the extension's data practices change, this policy and the Chrome Web Store privacy disclosures will be updated before the changed behavior is released.
