Our friend, Kevin Houseman, was visiting his college roommate and longtime friend in Bradley Beach, NJ in June of 2016 when he unknowingly dove through a wave and into a sandbar. The force of hitting the sandbar broke his neck, and immediately paralyzed him from the neck down. If it was not for the friend mentioned above, he would have drowned. His friend was able to help him get to shore where lifeguards gave him CPR and brought him back to life.
Since the accident, Kevin has undergone surgeries and spent time in several hospitals including University of Penn and Magee Rehabilitation Hospital. Although Kevin’s spirit and motivation are high, he remains paralyzed. At this time, doctors are not optimistic for his paralysis prognosis to improve. In addition, Magee Rehabilitation Hospital recently made the difficult decision to discharge Kevin due to him not showing significant progress in therapy.
