liner notes

By the end of 2015 I wasn't too happy about how my music career as a J-pop singer was developing, mostly because that year I had passed an audition for an important TV show, but I caught the flu just when it was time to record the song I'd perform on TV a few weeks later, and after being sick for weeks I couldn't record the song, so the staff from the show told me they were sorry but they needed to select someone who was available right away. They eventually chose someone else who became such a big sensation in Spain, and they appeared on all forms of media in Spain and everyone knew their name, and knowing that it could have been me was incredibly heartbreaking and mentally distressing. In a way, it made me feel like Japanese music was a bad memory I needed to move on from, and it took me years to realize that closure is what I needed.

So that's how "What You Waiting For" was born, it's a song where I wrote Japanese lyrics again after not having done so for years, and it's also the song that gave me the closure I needed to embrace again Japanese music as something I love instead of a traumatic experience. That's why I'm really thankful for this song, because not only it's a really catchy K-pop influenced track that delivers a great message talking about doing the things we want instead of always waiting, but it's also the song that reminded me of how much fun I can have when I'm writing songs in Japanese. Knowing I missed that chance to be on a popular TV show will always be painful, but there's nothing I can do to change it now, so I'd rather move on and have fun creating the songs I want to make.

The b-side track is called "Loco", and it's a house-inspired dance pop song with lyrics that could be deemed as sultry and even kind of sexy. I never really use Spanish in my songs, but I thought the word "loco" sounded catchy in the chorus, which features heavy autotune effects and a powerful beat. An exclusive bonus track was also included on the Bandcamp edition of this single, which is the English version of the main track.
