In this project, I simulated the interaction between a spherical indenter and a flat surface of a high alloy steel with a system of two hard ceramic coatings by using ANSYS Mechanical APDL.
The model had a strong non-linear behaviour due to the plastic strain and contact.

As a part of my thesis, I developed a multi-physical model of a micropillar compression experiment with three main coupled physical phenomena: heat transfer, electromagnetics and solid mechanics with a highly non-linear aspect (surface contact and plasticity). In this project, I used COMSOL Multiphysics for the conducted simulations.
The main goal was to explore the mechanical and electrical behaviour of multilayered systems, particularly FCC/FCC metals (Al/Ni) and provide a procedure for conducting experiments.

In this work, the wear and corrosion behavior of commercial TiN coatings deposited by Arc-PVD on nitrided and non-nitrided martensitic stainless steel was studied.
Pin-on-disk and erosion tests were carried out in order to evaluate their wear resistance.
The corrosion behavior was analyzed in salt spray fog and electrochemical tests in NaCl solution and the adhesion was measured in Scratch and Rockwell C Indentation tests.

The aim of this work was to study the behaviour against corrosion and erosion phenomena of martensitic stainless steel AISI 420 nitrided and non-nitrided samples coated with soft DLC by PACVD ("Plasma Assisted Chemical Vapour Deposition").
The microstructure of the nitride layer and the coatings was analysed by optical microscopy and SEM.
The coatings were characterized by Raman and EDS spectroscopy. Adhesion was evaluated with Scratch Test and Rockwell C Indentation. Potentiostatic corrosion and erosion tests were performed.
