KETE KIWI
KETE KIWI
Kete Kiwi is a virtual toolkit of advocacy materials to support kiwi conservation in Aotearoa New Zealand. Help raise awareness of kiwi issues, promote positive behaviour change and contribute to the conservation and protection of kiwi species.
In the famous legend, Tāne Mahuta ascends to the heavens to obtain the three kete or baskets of knowledge. The Kete Kiwi is a collection of resources to provide guidance around all our kiwi species, for their overall wellbeing and survival.
The toolkit materials:
provide a source of consistent messaging about kiwi across multiple organisations
allow groups and organisations to work with proven templates and save time, money and energy
encompass current research findings and include suggested messaging from consultation with experts, iwi and those working with kiwi
encourage community behaviour change around kiwi and native birds in Aotearoa.
Messaging has been co-designed with the Kiwi Recovery Group, ZAA (Zoo and Aquarium Association Australasia), Save the Kiwi, tangata whenua, DOC and key representatives from multiple agencies. Te ao Māori content and guidance was facilitated by Tane Karepa, Tainui.
We invite you to utilise the resources in the kete to advocate for kiwi in your rohe or takiwā. Please note that local situations differ and you may need to adjust material to suit your local area.
The Kete Kiwi information pack includes ideas about how to use the Kete resources to develop your own advocacy plan, background information on kiwi behaviour, ecology and cultural significance and further reading.
