Welcome to the Political Awareness Week website.

What?

A week of activities, events and presentations by the highest calibre of guests to get schools engaged in the issues of our time. It is organised by pupils from King Edward's School, Birmingham. Our speakers include:

Sir Robert Whalley, former director of counter-terrorism at the home office during 9/11

Barbara Krauthamer, dean of the Massachusetts University Department of Humanities and Fine Arts

Andy Street, West Midlands Metro Mayor

MP Preet Kaur Gill, Shadow Secretary of State for International Development

If you think politics is boring, here's the chance to prove yourself wrong! Attend presentations, watch the debates and talk to your friends! This is the best way for you to experience politics as it actually is. Please see the schedule for more information.

Why?

More young people are disengaged with politics than ever before – only 60% of those under 27 years old voted in the 2017 general election, compared to 80% above 27. However, holding government to account is vital to our democracy, to ensure that they are our representatives. With social media’s disinformation in the melting pot, that duty is harder to fulfil than ever before.
