Keshu is a coming-of-age story of a brave little fish who overcomes the adverse impacts of Climate change to save his family and friends.
Keshu the Book (Keshu) introduces concepts of Climate change and environmental health to young readers because it's never too early to start. You will also find that Keshu makes a great read-aloud book.
Our Earth is changing faster than we want it to. The news is dismal. Images of wildfires converging, searing droughts, crop failures, the despair of migration, flooded townships, shattered lives, and the melting of our iconic icebergs are hard for children to grasp. It is even harder still when their bedtime stories hark back to a very different world. Wouldn't it help if children saw that climate change is not one monolith that is being destroyed but rather a collective of environmental facets that change the climate? Each such facet can be corrected if these interconnections are better understood. Climate change impacts can be mitigated, and children need to know that, too.
Just as we continue to collectively contribute to environmental degradation and climate change, our combined efforts can become a juggernaut for good. More importantly, if children can see what is possible, we would have cultivated a crop of problem solvers with a better understanding of climate change.
Keshu the Book introduces concepts of:
Ecology
Animal behavior and defenses
Species shift and invasive species
Coral bleach
Climate change
Illegal dumping
Plastic waste
Island expansion
Commercial fishing
Emergency preparedness
Environmental leadership
Sounds too esoteric?
Fear not, Keshu introduces some of these complex concepts as he swims the uncharted waters of the blue Mahasagar in an odyssey.

Small incremental changes do make a difference when they are multiplied. Keshu the Book is a perfect little launch pad to discuss climate change with children.
It even models environmental leadership both metaphorically and in deed. For example, Keshu and his family have scales shaped like a 'Golden Crown over their eyes.' It is a metaphor for benevolent leadership. When Keshu has the opportunity to lead his people, what is his approach? Winner-Takes-All? Or Win-Win?
Lastly, Keshu the Book was written in the back drop of Covid. My professional and personal experiences during the pandemic have seeped into it as I wove in concepts of respiratory discomfort and loss.
