About Kerim Peren ARIN

After completing my Bachelor of Science degree at Hacettepe University in Ankara, Turkey, I obtained both my Master's and Ph.D. degrees in Economics from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, USA. Then, I had a seven-year tenure at Massey University in Auckland, New Zealand. Currently, I am a Professor of Economics at Zayed University in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Additionally, I serve as a research associate at CAMA in Canberra, Australia. I have been a visiting professor at renowned German universities, including the Goethe University of Frankfurt, the University of Ulm, and the TU Dresden. Moreover, I have had the opportunity to undertake short-term research visits to European universities such as the KOF Institute in Switzerland, NHH Bergen in Norway, Paris School of Economics in France, University College Dublin in Ireland, UA Barcelona in Spain, and the University of Granada in Spain.

Throughout my academic journey, I've taught courses in macroeconomics, microeconomics, public economics, monetary economics, and econometrics at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in five countries across four continents—USA, New Zealand, Germany, Oman, and UAE. My research focuses on the intersection of applied macroeconomics and public economics, emphasizing government strategies to enhance socioeconomic outcomes. I've extensively published on the impact of fiscal instruments on major macroeconomic variables, government privatization of public firms, economic consequences of terrorism, and the role of social cohesion in economic performance. Recently, my work has explored the use of microeconomic data to understand how macroeconomic shocks, like fiscal policy changes, social movements (e.g., BLM), environmental awareness, and the Covid-19 pandemic, affect individuals within a system. I aim to bridge the gap between microeconomics and macroeconomics by unraveling how individuals and firms respond to broader economic disruptions.
