Kenya Mitchell (born 1990) is a St. Louis–based artist whose work centers on textiles, printmaking, and multimedia forms such as painting and digital art. A native of Downtown South City, she earned her AFA from St. Louis Community College–Forest Park in 2018, was awarded a Gyo Obata Arts Administration Fellowship with the Regional Arts Commission in 2023, and completed her BFA in Studio Art with an emphasis on printmaking from Webster University in 2024.
Drawing inspiration from her personal faith, identity, and community, her art passionately explores themes of Black womanhood, mental health, invisibility, and solidarity. As an advocate for the arts, Kenya is dedicated to giving back through teaching, mentorship, and artistic advocacy, all while creating visually striking work that aims to inspire.
Her pieces have been displayed at venues including Cecile Hunt Gallery, Wild Fruits Projects, ArtFusion, Morgan Papermaking Conservatory, Red Gate Gallery, The Luminary, TechArtista, Art St. Louis, St. Louis Artists Guild, Angad Arts Hotel, Arcade Contemporary Art Gallery, Soulard Art Gallery, Urb Arts, Cherokee Print Bazaar, and others. She currently works as a teaching artist and is a member of Central Print Studios and the St. Louis Artists Guild. She also maintains her studio practice with Artist Co-Op, The Stu aka Spring Breakers LLC.
Fun fact: Kenya has been married to her loving and supportive husband Christopher for 12 years. She has a mixed-breed dog named Raven and is a faithful church member. She’s a foodie, movie buff, board game enthusiast, and a bit goofy. She is very passionate about art and the people she serves.
