Kenya Mitchell (b.1990) is a St. Louis-based artist, born and raised in downtown south city. She received her AFA from St. Louis Community College- Forest Park in Fine Arts (2018), Gyo Obata Arts Administration Fellow with the Regional Arts Commission (2023), BFA from Webster University in Studio Art with printmaking emphasis (2024). Her multidisciplinary work spans across printmaking, painting, textiles, and digital media. Drawing inspiration from personal experience, faith, identity, and the cultural richness of her community.
Her practice invites reflection on life's complexities, engages contemporary conversations around Black womanhood, mental health, invisibility, solidarity and self-definition. At its core, Kenya's works is a sort of devotional; anchored in truth-telling, layering, and the belief that art can hold space for what we survive and what we dream. As an advocate for the arts, she is committed to giving back through teaching and mentorship, while creating technically skilled, visually compelling work that inspires. Her work has been exhibited at Red Gate Gallery, The Luminary, TechArtista, Art St. Louis, St. Louis Artists Guild, Angad Arts Hotel, Arcade Contemporary Art Gallery, Soulard Art Gallery, Urb Arts, Cherokee Print Bazaar, and more. She's currently working at Kemper Art Museum Stl, a teaching artist at Central Print and St.Louis Artists Guild; as well as a Studio member at Central Print & Artist Co-Op The Stu aka Spring Breakers LLC.
