Kenta ONODA was born in Fukui, Japan, in 1996. He studied composition with Jummei Suzuki at Tokyo University of the Arts (Geidai), where he earned his Master's degree. He is currently pursuing further studies at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris (CNSMDP), studying instrumental composition with Frédéric Durieux and new technologies with Yan Maresz and Luis Naón. He has also participated in the composition academy at New Music Week 2023 in Rome, the Anniversary Edition of the Composer Seminar for Orchestra at Lucerne Festival in 2024, and the composition workshop at Bludenzer Tage Zeitgemäßer Musik 2025.
After being finalist in the 86th Music Competition of Japan, he won the 30th Yasushi Akutagawa Suntory Award for Music Composition. His works have been performed by renowned ensembles and orchestras such as Ensemble intercontemporain, Ensemble Cairn, mdi ensemble, Lucerne Festival Contemporary Orchestra and New Japan Philharmonic.
He has been awarded scholarships from Meiji Yasuda Cultural Foundation, Fukushima Foundation, Rohm Music Foundation, Nomura Foundation, and Program of Overseas Study for Upcoming Artists provided by the Agency for Cultural Affairs of Japan.
