Ken Perlstein is a New York-based actor, writer, and comedian whose career spans theater, television, and stand-up comedy. He has demonstrated an ability to transition between drama and comedy, creating character-driven work that has marked his journey across various forms of performance.


He grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and later studied acting and directing at Marshall University. In 1994, he moved to New York to pursue a professional career. His first job in the industry was as an NBC page, which provided him with a direct view of television production and offered valuable practical experience at the start of his career.


Training and Development


Ken continued his education by earning an MFA in Acting at The Actors Studio MFA Program at The New School. During this time, he was trained by respected members of The Actors Studio and developed his skills under the mentorship of established working artists. The program helped him deepen his understanding of acting while strengthening his ability to approach roles with focus and discipline.


Stage and Screen Work


He has taken part in a variety of stage productions, including Neil Simon’s Laughter on the 23rd Floor and Lost in Yonkers. His television work includes recurring appearances on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and guest roles on Succession, The Americans, City on a Hill, Person of Interest, and FBI. These opportunities enabled him to contribute to both comedic and dramatic stories, showcasing his versatility as a performer.


Writing and Producing


Perlstein has also expanded his career into writing and producing. He wrote, directed, and acted in the independent film "January," which was shown at the Millennial Film Festival and the Miami Independent Film Festival. In addition, he created and executive-produced the pilot "How Am I Doing?", which was screened at festivals across the United States and is now available online. Both projects were recognized by peers, with acknowledgment for his directing and acting work. He is now developing a new original series and preparing its pitch deck.


Comedy Career


His stand-up career has lasted for more than two decades. He has performed in several of New York City’s most well-known venues, such as Caroline’s, Comic Strip Live, Stand Up New York, and the British Comedy Festival. He has also performed throughout the tri-state area and in Los Angeles. His style combines personal stories with character-based material, showing his skills as both a writer and a performer.


Advocacy and Service


Outside of entertainment, Ken serves as a certified peer recovery specialist with a Bronx-based mobile crisis unit. In this position, he works with individuals in crisis, offering support and connecting them to resources alongside licensed social workers. This role reflects his commitment to helping others and his ability to bring empathy into work beyond the stage and screen.


Personal Skills and Interests


Ken is also a capable singer and impressionist, known for imitating figures such as George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, Donald Trump, and Bernie Sanders, among others. His background in sports includes football, wrestling, and swimming; however, he now focuses primarily on swimming and cross-training to stay active.


Current Life


He lives with his family in New York City and stays involved in artistic and civic communities. Through acting, writing, comedy, and advocacy, Ken Perlstein continues to create meaningful work while remaining connected to the people and experiences that shape his life.
